Default Passenger Footboard Covers

I am trying to drill the 5/32nd holes as per the instructions. After ten minutes of drilling with a new cobalt drill bit, I only have managed to put a dimple in the footboard. I know others here have successfully done this. Any suggestions? Thanks

I am not trying to be funny but do you have your drill in the right (forward) direction ?? The floor boards are made of cast metal and not hard to drill at all.

Get another bit and slow the speed down.A little WD-40 or drilling lube also helps.

It seems that when you heat up the metal by drilling at too fast of rpm,it gets harder and the bit gets dull real fast.

Center punch the boards. Use a drill press if you have access. Check the bit is a right handed bit (you might have accidentally ended up with a reverse bit). Shim the boards to ensure that they are perpendicular with the drill. Use an appropriate drill speed.

If you've been unsuccessful with this bit it may be damaged.

Oh, do I feel stupid!!! I've didn't realize I had the drill in reverse. No wonder it was acting like I was drilling through cast iron and not aluminum.
Thanks a bunch--drill went through like hot butter.

LOL, I was wondering the same thing, I didn't remember it being tough to drill at all!

Thanks everyone. I've spent all day putting accessories on my 2010 Ultra Limited--offset peg mount and highway pegs, windshield/fairing trim, replacement console gas cap, radio faceplate, brake pedal pad, license plate frame, speaker chrome surrounds, etc.

Never thought to check drill direction. Fatique must be setting in so I'll quit for the day before I screw up some nice chrome or something.
