Do yourself a favor and mark these down on your map... Its must do local favorites
1. SKYLINE DRIVE, in Canyon City, CO
2. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, CO
3. 550 (Million Dollar highway)

Just did 2200 miles through there last year in August

Hey, waterbug, do you know if they let you ride the "Rim Drive Road" in the Black Canyon? Thanks for your time.

The past few years have produced several fatal accidents on US 50 from Emporia to Hutchinson Kansas stretch. 2 lanes, lots of semi's not always getting to the speed limit, so people want to pass while there aren't many passing lanes. Be careful through this area.

I second the Skyline Drive in Canon City. Very cool.

I really like the vast expanses of nothing out in western kansas. I think it'll be a great trip. I want to take 50 from kansas across nevada. Supposed to be the lonliest road in the country out there.

I have been looking at the route from central Missouri out to Montrose and then south to NM and back to Missouri. I am thinking of running Hwy 54 out to where it meets 50 in Kansas, I can't see any reason for riding to KC and back down. For some coming through Missouri, 54 from I 70 takes you through the Lake of Ozarks and other sites. I laid out a route using mapquest and it was about 2000 miles. Don't have a lot of time this year, so will be doing it in a week or so. How are the motel costs along 550, etc. I would camp, but the wife likes a nice bed.
