Default Those were the days

Thought I'd post a pic of my 1977 FLH. We called them Harley 74's back then. 74 ci, 4 speed. I bought it new in 1977 for $3,000. Give it the throttle in 1st gear and all it would do is shake and roar. Had a pogo seat that was like riding in an old Buick. The kick stand always left a ring of oil. Those are my twins in the picture and they are 40 years old now. It wound up being stolen in Daytona. It was my 2nd Harley, my 1st was a Sprint. Like an old girlfriend I often wonder where it is today.

Yep, kind of looks like a new street glide in scarlet red. That bike was an AMF bike and i had it for about 3 years without the first problem. It really didn't ride bad on the highway. It had no inner fairing but I installed a radio and CB.

Those were the days, Elvis died that year and Muhammud Ali lost the title for good. Had a bud who bought one like yours, Seems like it was blue. Yep, til '71 all Harley made in the U.S. was Sportsters and '74s. That's what we called them either dressers or 74s. They came out with the FX in 71 and sold a ton of new models after that! (I don't count those little Aeramaccis). Times have changed.

Back then people would look down their nose at you if you rode a Harley. Those same people started buying them about 10 15 years ago. Every time I go by the dealer it looks like a retiree convention. Of course I live in South Texas and there are alot of winter texans here right now.

My Dad bought a 1972 "74" and has a pic of me sitting on it like your sons. That brings back memories

I couldn't afford a Harley back then, they cost twice what honda cost, so I bought a honda 750 only because it was either that or nothing..
