I recall having the same issue during my install and found they'll only fit one way. I remember having to rotate the speaker and then starting all of the screws before I tightened them up.
I'm sure they'll replace the bad speaker if you make them aware of the problem - they're great to work with.
I just installed a sony m60ui radio with the Hawg Wired install kit and the Double Shot amp and speakers , they make the best stuff on the market, I looked at Biketronics and almost went with them but am glad I didn't, my system blows away anything I've heard and the Hawg Wired techs will give you their cell number so you can call them after hours if you run into trouble , there instructions are detailed and easy to follow good luck
I installed the 6.5" speakers with the upgraded brackets #58938-96c,58939-96c.had the same problem the brackets wouldn't fit around the speakers and between the speaker and edge of the fairing.I had to reshape the brackets and stick a 1/2" nylon spacer between bracket and the speaker for clearance.Wasn't a big problem, took about 15 min.to reshape each bracket.I used a couple of nylon drawer spacers and a longer #6 sheet metal screw. The brackets are sheet gauge not aluminum and are easy to reshape with a vice and a ball pein hammer.I didn't find any broken brackets after 26kmi. but figured I'd replace them along with the heavier speakers.By the way,the speakers along with the Sony radio and Arc amp sound great.
My friend ordered the same set-up and had one speaker with the broken tweater and the wrong brackets. It was very frustrating to start the install and wait. After calling all replacement / correc parts were sent out (although they promised overnight shipping and sent regular). Aafter corrections the system does soung great.

I put their kit in my bike and had no problems. Sounds great!!! Give Biketronics a call. Bill is very helpfull. He helped me with a problem I just had with my Handle bar radio controls even though it had nothing to do with their kit. They will make it right.
i think you have the bracket mounted wrong, it mounts to the left side of the speaker, is it bolted to the uprite bracket in the right place, i think there are a few differant places it could mount.. i have never mounted oversized speakers.. wish i had them
Install Biketronics retro kit on my 04, Like d2r said with a little massaging and a small spacer all was well. Dont give up on Biketronics great product and company.
Just like everyone said, the customer service is very good. Sending a replacement speaker and advised me to turn the speaker so the bracket fits within an opening on the speaker. I was just leaving it as shown on the instructions and did not know you could alter it. Will wait for new speaker and then update on the install. Really impressed with customer service though!
I'm glad Biketronics is standing behind what they sell!I'm thinking about going with there 6.5" speakers for my FLTR and more than likely probably will. Still though... it would of been NICE to have a techs # handy to call when you had this problem with install.IMHO.
