Default Biketronics Speaker Upgrade Install Problems

Background:
I have a 2009 FL Standard and I want to install a radio but I am not a mechanic although have installed a few car radios. I purchased the Sony and upgraded Titan speakers from Biketronics after much research and finding no derogatory information on them or this product. The selling point was that it was plug and play and "a bolt on" product and cheaper than Harley by about $300. My experience has been a learning one from the guys on this site and I have found that Biketronics is an excellent product and company!!

All of my riding buddies cautioned me about not purchasing a Harley radio and speakers and trying to save a few hundred dollars saying it is not worth the trouble you will have. I am not happy with corporate Harley for a number of reasons but mainly their greed; and was impressed with the comments on here about this same install from Biketronics.

The install:
Removed the fairing (with outstanding help on this forum). Installed the speaker adapter on one side and the aluminum bracket from the fairing brace to the speaker would not match by about 1/4 inch. No way to bend it or move it to make it match, the speaker frame is just too big. The instructions (if you can call them that) show the bracket attaching to the speaker adapter and their bracket photo curves slightly up. My bracket curves out and slightly downward at the end and the middle of the bracket hits the speaker metal frame. After some massaging and slight bending the speakers went in fine.

Furthermore, upon inspecting the second speaker the small cone (for lack of a better word) on the front center of the speaker was very loose which can be turned completely around but the other one was tight and firm. I can find no way to tighten or adjust this. Another concern about the product and lack of quality control prior to shipping. The shipping package was very good so I do not think any damage occurred in transit but it could have. Biketronics sent a replacement speaker that arrived in two days.

Results:
Took everything off and put the fairing back on. Actually good experience for me doing this but took about two days off and on to complete. I do not want to bow to the Harley Financial God and with Biketronics around I dont have to.

Has anyone had this problem with the bracket not matching the speaker and does anyone know how to tighten the "cone" if possible or is it broken?

Thanks for the help and especially those who post instructions on here.

Read the rest of my posts on this, but understand that I am an amateur at working on this bike. The fairing makes it intimidating but after completion was not that hard, just time consuming. Biketronics is the kind of company that all American companies should emulate, outstanding customer service.

I wouldn't give up just yet. Give them a call Monday. In meantime if you'd post some pics of speaker mounting trouble maybe some of us can sort it out. Like you from all I've read and heard it's good stuff.

I agree that if you post pictures it will probably get the help you need. I have not heard anything bad about Biketronics, so I would give them a chance. Tell you friends if you want a really great sounding system, you cant stay with HD.

Dave are these the 6.5 Titans? Looks like you may be missing the adapter ring. Take a look pic at this link.

If you can't rotate the speaker clockwise & up slightly, looks like wrong bracket...I would talk to Biketronics about it on Monday...

You could also make an extension bracket to fit, but Biketronics should give you correct bracket or explain how to get that 1 to fit...B

Without the adapter ring it would almost fit. Yes these are the 6.5 Titans. My photo did not come out very clear but the adapter is on there. Back to my original concern, this is supposed to be "bolt on" and the speakers are usually the easiest. This makes me more concerned about the rest of the installation. The installation for the 445 (5.25 Speakers) has this "Figure shows use of a small crescent wrench or pliers to apply a slight bend in the speaker fairing support bracket. Go easy and avoid cracking or breaking ABS plastic inner fairing".

All I can say is that I've talked to Bill and Donna, very nice people! Maybe there has been a miss communication somewhere due to the year of your bike, or internal parts. But I'm 100% Positive that they would want to know about the speaker part being LOOSE. I would! I debated and debated last year on what to buy. I went with Hawg-Wired. Install was a piece of Cake! Also I got Cell #'s of tech's that could be reached 24-7.I've been very pleased with what I bought. I know this is not what you want to hear but, be patient and I'm sure they will make everything 100%. It sucks when ya buy,...do... and can't, cause of things not being correct...FRUSTRATING as @#$%!

Most speakers have the tweeter cone able to turn so you can aim them.

This one appears to be broken since you can turn it 360 and it will not stay where you point or otherwise place it. It kinda twists back in the opposite direction that you turn it. Frustrating as hell, oh well, even Toyota has quality control problems.
