Default Road King vs Road Glide

Hey Folks; I haven't been on here in some time, however I have a dilemma (a good one I guess) and am looking for some pros/cons from those in the know. Looking at handing off the '04 Fatty to the wife, and buying myself a new ride. (at her suggestion, believe it or not!) Originally started looking at the Road King (Std or Classic) but sales guy suggested I give the Road Glide a try instead. Not a whole lot more $$$, but seemingly much more bike. Now, instead of having to decide between the two models of RK, I'm trying to decide between the RK (either variety) or the RG. Anyone out there who has experience with both?? Pros/cons of either bike? I dig the more classic styling of the RK, but like the bonus features on the RG. Any comments, for or against either machine are appreciated. Just looking for some info from those in the know. (P.S. I've tried an RK on a Harley Ride Day, but have zero time on the RG...) Thanks to all who respond for their time.

If you are bar hopping, get the RK. If you are doing overnights and want tunes, get the RG.

I went from a Deuce to a RG and have never looked back. Got the detachable King Tour Pak for when the wife wants to ride with me and it comes off in < 5 minutes when I am going solo.

My friends who have RKs have put on windshields and some have added tour paks. So like I said, it depends more on your riding style / needs.

Road King is the choice. A lot more versatile. If you want a stereo, by a Chevy.

how you figure? they are built on the same frame, the difference is in the fairing. and if you're looking at an 2010 model, the road glide custom is actually gonna be lower than the road king. course, if you are on the tall side, you can replace the shorter shocks on the custom with some 13 inch stockers and improve the ride.

It all come down to if you want a fairing and music I suppose. The beauty of the RKs is that it can be stripped down in minutes to be a "street night" cruiser, or you can bag it up and add a trunk and have a worthy cross country cruiser. For about $1200-$1500 you can even add a really nice fairing with better tunes than HD sells if you go in for that.

The fugly (RG) on the other hand can only be stripped so far, and you're stuck with that hideous nose. Nobody can argue that it's not a capable machine, and owners that have them swear they handle the wind better than anything HD makes. I suppose if your constitution is strong and you don't mind people pointing and laughing, then the fugly might just be your bike...

Those that say you can't tour on a Road King are ignorant at best — to put it politely.

It really boils down to whether you want a fairing in front of you all the time or you sometimes want to ride a stripped down bike. I like the convertibility of the Road King — windshield on for long trips and cold weather, off for local rides. YMMV.

Of course the RG comes with tunes, but you can add them to an RK if you want.

AH, you're just jealous no one points at you

To the original poster, I've owned an 01 RK and an 08 Roadie. I know it's really not a fair comparison, but I love my Roadie and wouldn't go back.

Hey, what's all that chuckling in the background?????

And someday you won't go back to a regular bed after having one that sits you up with the press of a button. That's how the aging process works....
