So I'm trying to install the SE Stage 1 air cleaner kit, & am finding the instructions less than helpful. All the removal instructions refer me to the service manual, which I don't have.
It says I need to remove the gas tank?! Do I need to remove the arched shaped bracket that sits above the throttle body? I found some online instructions that were very clear (they didn't remove the gas tank), and they left it on, but when I put my new backplate on, it didn't sit flush with the throttle body. Grrrr
Do I need to pull the tank to get to that bracket's screws?!
,Did not remove my gas tank or lift it just use a L shaped wrench and be careful not to scratch the tank! I noticed the same thing with the throttle body gap, when you remove the bracket it will fit perfectly. I actually put the screws back in after removing the bracket as well.

Okay, thanks. I pulled the screws so I could lift the tank up a bit; I had my boy hold it up while I found which Allen wrench it was and took out the screws. Then the backing plate fit perfectly! :-)
Just installed Stage 1 air cleaner on my '10 TG and removed the PITA bracket with allen screws that probably had more loctite than anywhere else on the trike. Also made it easier by lifting tank with a 2x4 under rear of tank--and remove fuel line quick disconnect.
Question is, what do you do with the plastic bracket that used to clip on to that metal plate or how do you remove it? There is a connector mounted on it that may be the TBW. '10 touring bikes have that plastic piece---don't know about everyone else.
I had to do the same when I installed the heavy breather this weekend. The bracket with the 2 allen screws was a pain with all that loctite. I am going to cut each end of the bracket off, have it chromed and reinstall it to hold the plastic clip in place. As it is it looks like something is missing or maybe just because I know it is.
