hate to add fuel to the fire, since you have it back together. i added a strip of 3/8 weather stripping to reseal the fairing to the winshield. i stuck the stripping on the fairing side to make sure no water would work into the inner fairing.

To remove and re-install a windshield, you can loosen or remove only the three windshield screws, and, if needed, loosen or remove the screws located under the mirrors on the inner fairing side--leave the two bottom screws tight. The outer fairing will release from the inner fairing enough to allow removal and install of the windshield.

If you have removed the inner fairing, I've found the best way to reinstall it is to start with the center windshield screw--snug but not tight to permit some adjustment. On mine, I have the B&S stainless windshield trim, so I put the screw and washer through the trim with the rubber washer behind the screw, then start the screw in the threaded insert. Then I do the other two screws, washers, rubber washers on the trim.

On my bike, I seem to have very few alignment problems for the remaining four screws if I use my left hand to lift the outer fairing and snug the three windshield screws once the outer fairing is as high as it will go with the three windshield screws installed, but not tightly screwed down. There isn't a lot of movement of the outer fairing when the three windshield screws are installed, but not tightened down, when I lift the outer fairing; just enough to allow the other four screw locations to line-up for easy installation of the other screws.

+1 now you got it all back nice and pretty, how bout some pics of that bad boy pain in the fanny.
+1 my clark sheild came with a new gasket, i'm assuming you put it on

Nate

PS. next time you take it off won't be as tricky. after a week or 2 the sheild will have a slight curve to it, and not be so flat as it was this time. if you only remove the sheild you may get away with just removing the 3 screws, since faring cap is aligned to the new sheild, but if it doesn't you know about the other 4 screws now.

Your wrong on the shield having a slight curve. I've had mine for two years now, been off about 10 times and each time it's lays perfectly flat on the table.

not sure what you mean, but all of the 8 or 10 after market sheilds i've run then removed for one reason or another, have retained a slight curve when installed for a few weeks or so. Could be none of them were over 6", and a taller 10" or 12" may not be so likely to retain a curve. All i have run for any lengh of time has had some curve to it when removed. So no i was not wrong. I prefer not to hide behind a sheild and have the wind go in the correct direction. The only reason i run a farring and sheild at all is to hold my stereo, and hide the back side of my windshield bag. Got rid of the stock sheild on my 09' ultra first day, the backwards vortex blew my beard and hair into my eyes.

When those are started correctly, go back tighten the center, then the outer 2, then back to the other 4 you loosened up. Give that a try. What do you have to loose?

Nate
Had the same problem when I got my bike last March. As mentioned you need to loosen the 4 screws holding the fairing on.

8" Flat top, Light Smoke, looks good rode it for a couple of miles this morning, and if the snow stays away, I'll be able to really check it out in a couple of days!
