Default Power Commander/Thundermax

My indy recommended a Power Commander III USB when I did the cams & gear drive mod. The mechanic who did the dyno tuning told me that a big advantage with the USB is that the computer tunes it in less time and with less wear & tear than non-USB models. He said that he's seen clutch and starter problems caused by the repeated run-ups and starting/stopping needed to dial in non-USB systems. Another advantage of the USB system is that each cylinder can be individually adjusted. I assume that holds true for any computer tunable fuel system.

Dan:
I'll tell you next week. I have an 02 EGC with 95" engine, 203 cams, PCIII, Reinhart true duals & SE mufflers. The stock mufflers were 'way too restrictive, & I went with a set of barely legal SE slip ons. Then, over time, they just got too loud. I then installed a set of 2007 SE slip-ons. The tuner 'ran into a wall' with those mufflers as the "sniffer" has to fit past the mufflers & into the tail pipe. The late-model SEs have a baffle about 1/2 way up so the tuner didn't want to waste my $$ by doing an inaccurate tune.
That caused me to go to Fuelmoto & get the ThunderMax with Autotune. It's being installed even as I write this, but the weather is so bad I'm not going riding until the rains clear up.
So, I'll let you know next week. I'm hoping to get better gas mileage as I'm not a hot-rodder, but still only get 34-36 MPG.
After I installed my oil temperature gauge, I had a sneaking suspicion that maybe my engine wasn't warming up enough in the winter weather to get the Delphi off whatever the EFI equivalent of the "choke" is.
I found Jamie & FuelMoto to be excellent to deal with.

Default many options

I have a TMAX w/AT - because I will make many changes over time. (search my posts for more details)

So what are your plans? Both are great devices and will serve you well. But - the PowerCommander III requires a real tune to be effective. If you plan to change alot, that is alot of tuning - read money.

But if this is IT - PC3 is great, add $500 for a good tune and your in 7th heaven.

I have the Power Commander III, with V/H true duals Rush Slip-ons and a V/H air intake. The bike runs great on the power commander, I really like it. I had a lot of back popping and the bike was running rich. I added the Power Commander and bam, everything was fixed and now runs like a sports bike.

I run the PC111 , find it very easy to tune ,have also used SERT and Direct-link . They all have there good points just more comfotable with Power Commander.

Fuel Moto can hook you up with their "retro" Power Commander V. I'd go with the autotune modules but you'll need to weld the o2 sensor bungs in the exhaust. Jamie at Fuel Moto can hook you up with a map for your combo and the Autotune will dial it in. It's a bit pricey ($300 for the PCV, $300 for the autotune modules), but when you compare the initial price vs. dyno tuning and the fact the system will autotune adjust itself for any additional mods you make, you can't beat it.

The PCV w/Autotune is not expensive comparted to the T-Max.

For the same money of the PCiii, you can get the PCV retro from Fuel Moto, have lifetime access to Jamie's maps and later on can add the autotune if you so choose. I had the PCiii, went to the PCV, and using it is very similar. Just food for thought.
