Had a lady make sudden lane change(as soon as she passed me) and slam the brakes on in front of me tonight. Ended up putting the bike down on the pavement and rode it out as far as I could. Pushed off at the last minute before impact. I ended up witha good rash onmy left elbow and most of the skin is burt off the right hand. Because of no witnesses the cop wrote me a ticket for speed as the cost of the crash. She denied the the lane change. The real joke of the whole thing was I was going 30 mph in a 40mph zone when it happened. I consider my body got off quite lucky. The bike took a beating though. Front fender and forks were crunched with scratches down the whole right side of the bike. When I pushed off it pushed my clear of the car. I used my right hand to spin me so I went feet first to protect my head and upper body. My jeans and boots did their job. I will be investing in a good pair of warm weather gloves. My hat goes off to the Rockton, Il EMS. They are a class act. Same goes for the staff in the Beloit Memorial emergency room.
My sympathies as well. Happy to hear that your injuries weren't too bad, best wishes for you to heal fast.
Idiot cager is bad enough, but that cop & ticket would stick in my craw. You know the situation better than I, but it might be worth a fight. Maybe your Insurance Co. will go to bat for you...
I know you funnybone is hurting right now, but I had to do a double-take when your "got cut off tonight" post was next to one titled "Wife will not ride!" - 1st thought was that I'd been diverted to the "Hardup Hubbies" forum
[color=#0033FF]I think I might be calling the police dept to speak with a supervisor. If that lady took your right away from you, then she's at fault and the police officer should be
trained adequately to recognize such.
Why would a motorcylist just lay his bike down? Cuz he felt like it? Cause and effect.
This police officer has to do a better job with the investigation.
I would have def. given her a citation.
Glad your ok....sounds like you had some training in dumping/sliding the bike for a safe take down.
Civil suit must be on the horizon.....?
Why didn't the police officer cite her based on your observations of what transpired?
Why did she just slam on the brakes? Was it deliberate towards you or was there a bonifide reason or some hazard in front of her? Curious....
I got cut off yesterday on a 2 lane highway....by a SENIOR....AGAIN! Was beside him and he just decided to make a random lane change without a signal or look. Grab the brakes, lay on the horn and made the save. It sucks that some people are so careless. How many close calls have we all had! Too bad ya wrecked, glad ya lived to tell the tale.
Second, I think this should have been avoided by YOU.
If you were only going 30mph, you should have clearly had enough time to start braking as soon as that woman got in front of you. I can't imagine going 30mph and having to drop the bike because someone got in front of me and slowed down.
At 30mph, you could have stopped on a dime in need be.
I hope you get well real soon. But I also recommend you get over to the nearest parking lot and practice emergency maneuvers and work on reaction time.

I'm suggesting this for safety reasons.

Glad to hear your okay!
I gotta agree with Anthony. I took an MSF Advanced Riders course a year and a half ago and one of the things they worked us on was stopping quickly and safely. At 30 mph it is easy to stop quickly with just the front brakes alone.
Still the cop should have been able to tell what had happened. Hope you get it all worked out.
Good to hear you are okay, and obviously able to type with your left hand.
Couldn't hurt to ask the cop's supervisor to review the case. Just can't make sense even to a person that doesn't ride that someone would lay down their bike unless they REALLY needed to. ie like when someone locks up their brakes right in front of you,
