I am installing the HD premium oil cooler kit on my 2007 FLHX Street Glide. Everything looks easy and straight forward in the instructions but the problem that I am having is with the gasket. The gasket has 3 holes in it (2 small and 1 large). At first I thought that the 2 smaller holes would go over the 2 lips that stick out on the back side of the adapter assambly, but it will not line up this way. The only way that the gasket will fit is if I put one lip through one of the smaller holes in the gasket and the other lip through the large hole in the gasket. This may be right but it seems odd to me the way that this fits. Can anyone tell me if this is correct??? Thanks
By 'lip' do you mean the hose 'nipples'? If so, you might want to look and see if the gasket fits on the other side, between the adapter and the original oil filter mating surface. The oil filter should be screwed into the threaded center adapter and alongside the hose nipples, with the hose nipples left exposed.
If that's not what you meant, maybe posting a pic would help?
hard to explain but i remember it looked like it should fit one way but really can only fit another way. the main thing is when you line up the center hole, it only goes one way in which the diameter matches the diameter of the adaptor. seems like a wierd way the gasket fits but it works. just remember to torque to the maximum setting. good luck...
The gasket looks a lot more complicated than it is. Just look at the diagram and install it the way it looks. I used a couple spots of RTv to hold it in place.
I got a lot of good info when I installed mine here: http://www.*****************/forums/ha...009-ultra.html (The permatex gasket sealer on the one side of the gasket is a good tip) This is the way i did it and no leaks :-)
Here's a picture (from that thread) of the corect gasket position.

Just did mine yesterday, what a pos gasket design. You have to use something to stick the gasket on to keep it from rotating and leaking. If it rotates a little bit it uncovers one of the ports, the pic shows the right way. Mike
