Huh, i knew it was corrosive, just never thought about the dry stuff on the roads causing any problems. Oh well, sure not going to stop riding if the weather is nice because of it and normally when I get home it's getting cold again so don't feel like washing.
Sorry for the stupid question guys!
Yep that's what I did a few years back. Ruined the back wheel on my Softail Custom. The solid aluminum wheel like on the Fatboy.
I wiil never ride now until there has been enough rain to wash off the road, but that's just me. I learned the hard way.
The dealership will deliver it free and I don't have to have it out of storage until april 15th, so hopefully well get rid of all the snow and get some good rain before then.
If its piled up on corners it can cause the bike to slide, same with cinders, sand, ash, gravel. I keep my winter riding to the back roads. Salt isn't good for anything on the bike, especially aluminum and electrical connections.
This thread is depressing me. My bike gets delivered on Friday, dealer is installing some chit, its gonna be 41 degrees on Saturday, and I was looking forward to getting out, if for just a bit. I don't think I can take it any more.
(dealer came by to pick it up today, first time it was started in 3 months, started right up, and it sounded great, so freakin loud and strong, just a great growl. I am climbing the walls)

Me to I rode mine for the
first time Yesterday. O well Im old and rusty.
Well crap, guess all the little nooks and crannies of my bikes got salt dust in them now. Oh well, it just seems like the winter has been so long I couldn't wait any more. Not sure I'd do anything different though, it was sure nice to get back out on the highway again.
