Changing Upper Fork Sliders
Thanks for your input. I do have a service manual but I think it's great that you are willing to put in the extra link for the service manual PDF as well. Your awesome!
dawg has constantly given you guys his time and expertise for no benefit to himself which, with great members like himself, makes this forum the best (but not limited to) in the USA.
As mentioned previously, pull the forks apart, look closely at the bushings, clean and swab forks carefully & finish up with some brake cleaner, than always replace the fork seals prior to assembly.
* When you have the calipers off, turn them over, remove the pads, take some brake clean and toothbrush and scrub the pistons and calipers good to remove the brake dust that sticks like glue.
Good luck and if you need any help just call as I do quite a lot of them.
Although I am very mechanically inclined, I will call my dealer and ask to return the set I just purchased to use the money on other parts I need now.
Maybe in the future when I decide to do black lowers at the same time I will repurchase them...
For the labor a dealer would charge you, you can by a lot of beer for that rainy Saturday project.
Lots of things you can service, clean and check while its apart. Get to know your bike better, good stuff.
There is a great video on youtube on how to disasemble and asemble the sliders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdEB76xsxWk it is a 3 part video.
My main concern is taking the forks off of my 2008 Ultra Classic.
I hope this helps. Its a task worth taking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It took me and a buddy 3 1/2 hours to change out my front end to Chrome kit. Just did his this week and took us 3 hours. Practice make perfect. BTW you dont have to remove inner or outer fairing. Just the ignition swith and switch cover. Can reach the top 36mm cap and pinch bolts and cowbell bolts without removing them.
