How Much Oil???
I let my dealer do the 1,000 mile check and then I take over all of the maintenance from there. I'm approaching my first 2,500 fluid change on my RK Classic and was wondering just how many quarts of oil the 88A "wiggle" motors take on an oil change.
The reason I bring this up is related to the Heritage I used to own. In my Heritage the "4 quart" oil capacity really meant you put 3 quarts into the tank and maybe tweak it up from there, maybe. The first change I blindly dumped 4 quarts in and then stole the wife's turkey baster from the kitchen to suck out the extra quart of oil.
Does 4 quarts really mean 4 quarts in the touring motor world?

RE: How Much Oil???
For my wife's '00 FLHT and my '06 Ultra, I put in 3 1/2 qts, start the bike and let it run for a couple of minutes, then add the last 1/2 quart. This puts the cold oil level halfway between "Full" and "Add" (which is what the service manuals for both bikes recommend).
I just started using Syn 3 in the Ultra and found that if the cold reading is half way between "Full" and "Add", it will read right at "Full" when at normal operating temperature (about 220 to 230 degrees).
Both bikes have oil coolers but it does not seem to change the amount required when changing the oil as the coolers are mounted below the oil filter and do not drain when the oil and filter are changed.
