Default Purchasing 1st HD

I'm purchasing my first bike and picking it up this weekend. 2008 Street Glide with just over 6k miles on it. As far as maintenance, what would you do first? I'm not sure, yet, when it was last maintenance. Any other advise for first time buyers?

ASk ,I am sure the last owner would share the information with you.If that is not available to you the suggested maint. is listed in the owners manual along with that finding out who had done the previous service is a good way to find out, also as the shop should have records too!

First advice, get a service manual and parts manual from HD. Second, if private sale I'd do a 10k service on it per the manual. If from dealer, I'd ask for the service records.

First time owner here so not overly edumacated. Find a mechanic in your area that is certified to work on these bikes and can provide you the "stamp" needed to show they are qualified to do the work. Ask around and make certain these folks provide quality work and not just a hack job. Your new bike should have had a service at 1000 and 5000. See if you can determine that. Either way I would have the bike gone over from end to end given the low miledge. (Who would ride a bike so little?) Anyway, get it serviced completely and then ride safe. ENJOY brotha!

I would check the fluid levels and condition. Like said, try to get some maint. records or receipts. Go around the bike and see if anything is loose. Then RIDE THE HELL OUT OF IT.

If you haven't already done so, I would take the bike or the VIN# to a Dealer and have it checked to make sure any service bulletins have been completed. The Dealer service guy can tell you most of the history of the bike.
