I'm seriously thinking of trading in my dyna & have my eye on both a 06 road king & 2001 Road glide (very low miles). Dealer has them both... Going to take a test ride today & think on it.
pros or cons?
As far as I can tell there were no major changes to the drive train or such till 09 So really just two bikes with different skins so to speak.

Yes and no. IIRC, the Road King has different shocks in the rear (shorter) and then there's that whole fixed fairing/radio/additional gauges/storage/cruise control/etc thing going on with the Road Glide.
Both of them are great machines - no question. The Road Glide is just going to be more comfortable on long rides and have more toys. Buy the one you like best
Mechanically.... both bikes ARE quite similar. The RK, is more popular, which drives up the used bike value (IMO), while the RG, has been the "best kept secret" of the HD line.
You really do need to road test both bikes, and see what suits you. On one hand ..it he price s equal..... I'd go with the 2006 RK because it's newer.... on the other hand, I'd go with the RG, because.... well?? just because
.... them Road Glides are fuuugly! ...... think thrice before gettin' one.
..... i was initially gonna make an educated comparison of the differential in capabilities between the differently yeared stereos on the two bikes when it occurred to me that ......... uhh, one of'm doesn't have a radio .......... so, nevermind. Go w/ fugly.
I presently own a Fugly. I would get the 06 because it has a few improvements and newer.
Then I would go on ebay and find Fugly take off parts and make the Road king a Super Road King Fugly...
I like the RK more for the classic look. I like the Glide for the stereo but I only think they look nice with alot of customizing. Paint and all that jazz. Cant hear the stereo over 30 miles an hour anyway. Im partial to the RK though (see avatar) lol
I can hear my stereo at high speed also. I have ridden them both and my RG handles better than any bike i have ridden. I wanted a SG but glad i bought my RG.
