Question Clutch cable removal for FLHT

Hey from NE. I have ? about removing a clutch cable without taking the engine apart. I am attempting to replace the inner fareing brackets. And the clutch cable runs through one. Is there a way to disconnect it at the lever or the adjustment nut ?

Yeah. You need to loosen the cable adjuster and remove the snap ring from the bottom of the pivot pin on the clutch lever, pull the pin and remove the cable. Then get yourself a service manual.

Half way down your cable near the frame & front cylinder you will see a corrigated rubber boot on your cable jacket.Slide it off to expose your adjuster. You use this to adjust your clutch cable. Loosen it to give you slack in the cable & you should be able to disconnect from your hand grip.

I would recommend disconnecting it from the lever. It will then be free to slide through the opening in the fair. Taking it apart at the clutch end would be the other option (ie: A FRICKEN NIGHTMARE!) You can not disconnect it at the adjuster.

I am assuming you are replacing the vertical brackets because they are broken? If they are broken at the top, you can easily fix with a couple galvanized brackets and some 10/32 nuts and bolts.
If I assumed wrong, carry on.
