I am like everyone else find a different dealership. But I do have a friend that bought an extended warranty and moved out of state. Our local dealership in the new state said that he needed some work done on the bike. This should be covered under warranty. When the local dealership contacted the warranty individual from the dealership he purchased from they denied it. Now everything is going to court. We are talking of thousands of dollars. JMTC.
Could an other dealer denie the claim,I dont know.
Here in lies the rub with warranty. "Most" dealers will honor the warranty if Harley performance parts are used and installed by them or another shop familiar to them. Whether they honor the warranty or not seems to be the whim of the dealer involved as the question seems to be do they go by the letter of the law or the spirit related to warranty.
As in the case of the OP, sounds like the dealer wants to play the "you did the work yourself so no warranty chip" (though as lean as the new bikes are tuned from the factory, correct tuning is important. Not meaning to imply the OP could not tune the bike correctly here just pointing out how improper tuning could lead to parts failure). The two shops that I have dealt with have both indicated willingness to warranty what they can even though I had a Stage II 103 kit installed. Having said that they did point out that the warranty could be denied by the MOCO based on the performance nature of the build (crossed flag parts).
At the end of the day, I decided the performance of the bike now was more important to me than waiting out a warranty period where they may or may not cover the repairs based on the whim of the dealer. I am glad I did the work as the bike runs sweet.
Good luck with your decisions of whether to tune or not to tune.
I bought a new bike this past fall, I asked about stage 1 upgrades with aftermarket parts, what would it due to any warranty issues. They told me they would honor the warranty and offered to do the work. Some dealers are just greedy.
my dealer told me as long as their mechanics installed the upgrades then it was covered. But I have heard that if they dont install them than it will not be covered by the warranty. I guess all dealers are different....
