Default Warranty Issues

I was told yesterday by the dealer that if I add a Stage 1, Pipes and a tuner to my bike that the warranty becomes null and void on the powertrain.

I did a search for voided warranty to no avail.

Any truth to what I was told?

Joe

Yep, technically it does void the warrantee. I was told by my dealer that just changing the air cleaner would void it. That being said, they did my stage I with cams, dyno tuned my bike and still honor my warrantee. They are pretty cool about it.

I guess I can understand it to a point, but, I can do the work myself with a fuelpak tune it myself.

I might be more agreeable if I were actually breaking down the motor, boring and doing cam work. I do not think exhaust and air upgrades are not very intrusive and should not void the warranty. My Opinion of course.

Under Magnuson-Moss, they have to PROVE what you did caused the failure that you want them to fix.

The stealerships use this BS void warranty crap to sell you their product.

Ask him if he is familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Act and what specifically your modifications are going to do to cause a failure.

Not every dealer wants to jack it up your butt like your dealer. Go to another dealer.

I have never had a warranty issue in 20 years and all but one bike had stage 1. My 08 had a race tuner and it was in the shop 12 times, several times while pulling a trailer. No one ever said anything.

The stage 1 download comes from the factory enginering so how can that be not covered under warranty?

I think some dealerships need training on what is covered and not covered.

Smokindave is right.

If he is going to feed you that BS now, he will find a way to screw you down the line anyway.

Go to another dealer. Let the crooked ones starve.

My dealer says no problem with stage I mods. As long as it dosen't cause the failure and can be proven. Sounds like a good deal. As others have said, check with another dealer - I wouldn't want to deal with them anyway.
