Default Throttle cables

This isn't clear to me. I'm replacing the throttle grip on my 06 road glide and I can't see how to slack the throttle cables so I can slip them off the old and onto the new grip. The bike is EFI if that makes any difference. I can see where the return cable at the intake body is easyest to reach. It looks to me like it should be able to be lifted out of its seat with a pair needle nose pliers and then pulled toward the front of the bike to release it from the throttle body, but it won't lift high enough. Am I doing this right or am I going about it all wrong?

I think I did this four times on my RK because a pair of heated grips I bought were no good and I just took them off and put the old ones back on again for a trade in. You should be able to grip the cable down low , the one that faces you when you sit on the bike , and then roll the throttle . You will have to work the little brass thing out. Then do the same for the other side. I'm not sure if this is the proper way but like I said I did it a few times and never broke anything. You can put a flat head screw driver in the brass thing to twist it so the cable will slide out when you get some slack. Take your time .

Whoops, I forgot to say to use needle nose pliers. And you might actually want to have somebody hold the switch housing out of your way to relieve frustration.

Ok, i can see the brass feral, but I'm not sure how the cable is captured by it. I can't get enough slack in the cable to lift it out of the races in the throttle grip.

TFM as you say , sucks! I'm not sure that I can help you anymore. You should be able to grab the cable just where it disappears into the hole. Clamp down on it hard and roll the throttle back.

OK, so the ferrule is in a slot in the grip.
Push it towards the center of the bike if I remember right

The cable is through a little keyhole slot in the ferrule with a metal rivet looking thing on the end that prevents it from pulling through.

Put a towel on the ground to catch it in case it falls.

Don't forget to put a spacer in the brake lever before putting it back together!

Ok, I got it. It just needed a little more pulling than I thought it could take. I'm always breakin stuff that I didn't think would break, so I didn't want to break my return cable, with tomorrow bein a good ridin day here in Virginia.

My new handlebar grips are on and life is good.

Thanks for bearing with me on this one guys. Just couldn't see all what the ferrule was doing to hold the cable. Once I got it off of there it all became so clear. Just yank the darn thing. Throw the tools back in the tool chest, go in change shirt and I'm goin for an evening ride.

You can do the whole thing with a needle nose. It's tight, but it can be done. Like someone else said, use a towl or something... that brass feral will spit out and never to be found again in your shop. It is a PTIA, but more than doable. At this point, the manual doesn't go into great detail about this portion... I went through this with the manual when I put on my Heritage bars and new grips.
