Default HD Wheels Question

I was looking at buying a set of Fat Spoke Rims for my 01 FLHTCI, I was looking on www.hdwheels.com and they have a page under technical info that tells you sizes of tires you can put on your bike without modifying your bike, stock tires on the 01 are MT90B16 and they stated I could go to a 150/80/16 with out modifications, I was concerned about belt rub on the tire so I emailed them and they said when I ordered rims they would change the offset when trueing them so as to prevent belt rub and I could run that size tire, they even said on my stock Harley laced rims I could run a 150/80/16 tire without issue if I would sent it to them and they would loosen the spokes retrue it and change the ofset, wouldn't changing the offset make the tire not be centered in the fender, has anyone heard of this THANKS

Tim, That doesn't sound like the best idea to me. Especially riding in rain where you ultimaltly want the rear tire to follow the groove the front tire makes. I have a 99 RoadKing that I also want to put a 150 rear tire on. I have a set of 05 spoked wheels, they also came with the 1" axles and rear sprocket. After many nights of looking at the "newly listed" items on e-bay I found a "take-off" rear swing arm from a newer RoadKing which uses the 150 tire (the swing arm was only 10 bucks plus shipping from a Harley dealer out west) I was told I could use my existing front trans sprocket and just use the newer 1 1/8" belt as opposed to my 1 1/4" belt.

I guess my point is that if you are patient and check e-bay nightly you can find "buy-it-now" dealer take-off parts dirt cheap. When you mention "fat spoke" rims I'm not sure if you mean the stock harley 9 spoke rims or a set of fat spoke wheels like American Wire Wheel makes. If the stock wheels are what your looking for I see them for as low as $40 a piece sometimes used from dealers.

In my case the bike has over 60K on it and It wouldn't be a terrible idea to change the rear belt anyway so I might as well go to the newer thinner belt.

thanks, I have Harley spoke (laced ) wheels now they said they could offset, the ones I was looking at were laced fat spokes like American Wire Wheel, they are saying they can offset my sprocket when trueing the wheel and the tire will be dead center in the fender behind the front wheel I just don't see how this is possible

PineyRider,

What year of the newer swing arms can fit on our bikes? I have a '01 RK and am interested from your post. I only found 09/10 swing arms on ebay, but want to make sure.

Thanks, Mark

Mark, I'm going to say 02-07 should work. Those years swingarms take a 1" axle, Harley lists 08 touring bikes as using a 25mm axle. 08 may be the same swingarm but since there are a lot (usually) to choose from on e-bay you might as well stick with 02-07 years. And as far as I know all touring rear swingarms those years are the same part number (RoadKing, RoadGlide, Ultra, StreetGlide...ect).
