I am glad that everything turned out OK for you. I to have been on the ground and it is not pleasent by any means. I always wear a helmet and will continue to do so the helmet saved me...................
Threads like this...even if the skidlid law repeals in Ga. I'll still be wearing at least the novelty or shorty lids.
Is it just Atlanta, or have folks started running red lights everywhere in the last 5 years? I don't even leave a green without looking both ways anymore in my truck, let alone on the bike! It's almost as if it were legal here, it's so bad.
Hey man I went down yesterday on my ultra classic. Long story short an a$$hole slammed on his brakes, jumped into the left lane, then turned infront of me for a quick right turn and it was either t bone him or slam on the breaks and lay it down. I walked away no scrapes because of the leathers, which are jacked up, brand new helmet fulmer V2 3/4 i picked it up tuesday did it's job well, and doc martins took it like a champ. In other good news I think the only bad things to happen to the bike is the engine guard is bent to **** $145, one highway peg clamp $12 (the peg was good) almost sheered off, and the fairing has a nice black oval in the bottom part of the two tone green and silver $???. I wasn't going 55 or dodging oncoming traffic it was more like 35 to 40. I was, for some reason, wearing all my leathers because I was going on a long ride. The helmet was a change from my half helmet which would've ran my face through the cheese grater. Also, some how i managed to turn the bike off before kicking it away from me while sliding across the ground I've only been riding for two years but I've rehearsed what I'd do in this situation in my head many times and I guess that just took over. The worst part is I know it's only the day after but I'm really self conscious about this situation because I'm still kinda new at riding and I really don't have anyone talk to about this and to ask if this makes me a bad rider. I thought I'd bring it up here you guys seem really supportive and you have no idea how much it means to me to hear your stories. After reading all the get well soons i'd like to add mine get well soon man, and i agree with you on the helmet thing. being 28 and riding a electra glide is already different from anyone my age on dynas and sporties but i wear a dot helmet every time which the guys i see don't do ( ky no helmet law ). anyway thanks for listening sorry for rambleing be safe
Glad your alright, and as your thread went it goes to show you how some motorist just don't give a care about anyone else but themselves. Sucks to be them.
While we're on this subject: has anyone found a reasonable facsimile to the novelty helmets that is DOT rated or at least comparable? While I like the scarcity of mine, I have to wonder about it in a crash, although most crashes involve more abrasion than impacts, if I recall correctly.
It's that one impact I'm concerned about.
