I didn't realize that by posting in this forum I would get such a "cool" reception from most of you. Geesh ~ I was just being honest about what I'm feeling and my experience so far and some of you want to burn me at the stake. I thought that by posting in a HD forum, I would run into alot of understanding. With a few exceptions, I guess not. I stated twice that I'm NOT crackign on the SG. I'm just stating my own personal preferences and asking in your opinion, what to do.
I don't think that they are giving you a cool reception. Don't be offended. These days in order to get what you are expecting from any new bike you are going to have to dump more money into your bike.
I complained about the stock pipes on my SG and now I am running the Fat Cats 2-1 not the Boss like some people will suggest. I get tons of compliments on how it sounds rides and looks but it came at a cost. A carbureated Road King is a completely different animal so I think their frustrations may stem from the fact that we are comparing apples to oranges.
Good luck with your new bike. Give it some time. If not trade it on another Road King but I have a feeling the newer road kings may not be so exciting to you either.

Hope Trishi realizes too that she already lost about $5000 in depreciation
I feel your pain. Hard to hear someone spend 20grand and feel disappointed with their purchase. You got plenty of good advise here, now hopefully you can make the changes needed to make your SG a bike you'll love.

Two thoughts... First, "most" are probably not giving you a "cool reception". Most are like me on the sidelines lurking. Second, your bike is new and will take some time to get used to. I suspect that after you bolt a few things on and make some new memories, you will forget your '99 soon enough. The 2010 SG is a nice bike.
Yea, it can be fixed. Your new SG has a cat, (Like your car has had for years) it muffles the sound some too. I also wish mine was a tad louder. You can have the cat removed for about 100.00 from a sponsor on here I think. (Also there is a guy on EBAY that will do it, with your pipe as an exchange)
Smooth ride? Well, I think it rides fairly firm. I will later this week be able to compare it to an ULTRA. If you bought a bike for mainly two up riding and doing longer trips,, you and your husband should have bought an Ultra maybe?
The SG is more geared to the guy who isn't quite ready for a ......."Geezer Glide" LOL (Hey I'll be on one one of these years I am sure,, for now I am thrilled with my upgrade from the Softail Standard to the SG!)
As mentioned above, it's nothing you guys can't tweek to your liking... you probably should have rented one for a weekend and got a better feel for it if your that unhappy though!
I've not had any issues. I myself, even though this is my first harley owned have rode at least 10-15 models ranging 20 years in age, and this has probably been my favorite. I'm a big guy (6'2, 220lbs) and it doesn't beat me up too bad wind wise. I will agree that it needs to be a little louder, but a system can fix that. I saw one run by with the stage one kit, and a vance and hines slip on and it sounds just like my step dads 92 Softail custom.
I think too, we are used to a carbureator as opposed to the new fuel injection.
An EFI engine will not lope or sound like the old carbed variety no matter what you do. That's just the way it is.
As I said, we did order a new winshield last night, and I'm hoping that takes care of the wind issue.
Maybe I'm just panicking because it's something totally different.. I don't know. I guess we'll put the new windshield on and ride some more and see how we feel. Again, no offene to anyone who has a SG. It's a great bike.. just wasn't what I was expecting.
I hope you researched the windshield issue, as there are many to choose from, and getting the wrong one likely won't improve your mood. Which is correct for you depends on your height and other factors.
