Adamec on Baymeadows in Jacksonville apparently is like this. If you come back after a month and decide you don't like it and the bike is still in near mint condition with not a lot of miles they'll help you out.

I think the only thing you won't be able to solve is the sound at idle. The carbs just sound better than the fuel injected 96". Having the idle set low on the older bike is awesome. That is the one thing i wish i could change on my 2009 RG. New exhaust will help, but it can't emulate dropping your idle down 300 rpms or whatever those older carbs run at.

Put on a Klock Works windshield and a set of D&D Fatcats. The bike will sound great and you'll loose the bulk of the buffetiing.

A stock Street Glide is not a good two up (or one up) touring bike in my opinion. You will need to change the windshield, seat, add a fork baffle, fairing wings, and lowers to get comfortable behind that fairing. The stock suspension sucks, but not because it's too smooth. I'll be adding Progressive or Ohlins rear shocks to mine.

Did you test ride a Road Glide before you bought the Street Glide?

I must disagree. I put over 200 miles on my bike the first day I was able to get it out of my dirt road to ride it, and I loved every second of it. I think if you're able to control the bike, and are big enough to flat foot it at stops, it is perfect for one up touring.

I think you have to realize something---That you are now riding a SG. You are used to your 99 RK and the only other bike that will ride like that is another 99 RK with a similiar set up. Give it some time and after a while I think you will come to accept your new bike and appreciate its finer qualities rather than pointing out what you don't like about the bike. Remember is the glass half empty or half full?

Interesting read...... my wife and I went in one day with our 05 FLHT, they had a newly arrived 09 FLHT, after asking about it and really liking it I told them I wanted to deal, at that time they had 4 Street glides. I though what the heck and took one for a short ride down the highway.......... no way no how for me, at 6-2 280 it was to much wind in face (windshield fix), and I felt the rear end was to low (seat and shocks). We also noted the passenger had pegs instead of boards. Once back they really wanted to sell one of the street glides and told me they would swap all those parts off the FLHT........ after some looking it over we decided why take all the parts of the FLHT to get what we want, so we bought the FLHT and have been very happy. As noted by all, its a preference thing and these comments are just my opinion.........

I have the klockwerks 6.5 shield and the D&D Boss Fatcat on mine with the wrapped perforated baffle and it rides, runs, and sounds great.

I do have a different seat for when the wife rides and also added the four point dock so she can use a back rest if she chooses to.

I tried to send you a private message but that option doesn't appear to be available to you yet. If you send your email address to me at ne46t9@comcast.net I will email you an experience I had very similar to yours.
