You all laugh now, but with universal health care which is paid for from taxes comes a ton of additional safety legislation down the line.....generally it is called a slippery slope and I'm positive that helmet requirements will be mandatory in the next few years.

I choose not to wear occasionally and love it.

It is nice to have the choice or freedom to not wear a helmet or wear one. If they make us wear one then I guess we will all have to follow along like sheep. Maybe I'll become an ABATE member and at least try and do my part, I mean I don't have a problem wearing a helmet and do on occasion, but I like my freedom to choose to do so or not.

personally I think you should have a choice to weat a seatbelt too! But I choose not to wear a helmet. I like the wind on my bald head, and that is part of the joy of riding, I'm also thankful that Wisconsin is also a no helmet state....

Agreed!!

Here's the deal. The government "Gang" wants to tell us that it is not our right to choose whether or not to wear a helmet, yet they fully support and allow the 7-Eleven down the street to sell a pack of proven poisen for $5.00 a pack so that they can collect the tax revenue.

Those of you that believe that the government is truly concerned about your health and well being are living in denial.

I rest my case!

Kinda ironic isnt it, Ill. dont care if you wear a helmet and your free to go kill yourself. And on the opposite end they dont want you to have a gun to protect your life...so basically Ill wants its citizens dead? i would have to assume thats the case.
it should be a choice yes, but even if Missouri allowed the choice Id still wear one.

I'm in Ohio and most of the states around me are helmet choice. Even PA chanced over after years of mandatory helmet law. You can pretty much ride to the east coast and Sturgis from here and not have to wear one if you don't want to. I do agree that new riders should have to wear one for at least a year until they get used to the bike and riding in general.

Yeah I can go to recess, you can't until you learn to spell sandbox. Sorry if I offended a helmet law ****. The Helmet Law in my state resulted in a large increase in fatalities in a fourteen year study. The calculator that disproved the governments hocus pocus numbers and untwisted their stats to the satisfaction of our state legislature, is pretty old now, but is sitting on my desk right here. We proved helmet laws kill. I think that comment was pretty mild, considering it was aimed at people who are trying to kill me!

I once told a State House Commitee. Always wearing a helmet is as foolish as never wearing one. The people in this State make good decisions. If they didn't, I'd be talking to a different group of people today. They repealed that law. Imagine that.

Most Helmet Laws are passed on the assumption that always wearing a helmet will reduce injuries and fatalities. That's not true. Prior to 1976 all States were required by the DOT to enact Helmet Laws or lose Federal highway money. I was active in getting that power removed from the DOT in the National Highway Safety Act of 1976. Democrats responded to the argument that it took away our civil rights and was cause for any biker to be stopped to check the helmet. Then, that was certifications like Snell or Z90. Some Republicans argued against us citing the "Public Burden Theory." That was the concept that if a biker is hurt severely, then the taxpayers might have to foot the bill. See this health care crap is about nothing, everybody gets it anyway now! Anyway, when we showed that our states stats proved mandatory helmet use resulted in a 22.9 increase in fatalities per reported accident, the Republicans got more conservative about the Helmet Law.

Helmet Laws have never been able to stand on their own merit! When 49 States had them in 1976 there was a lot of protesting bikers. Most States bowed to the will of the people. There were huge rallies and runs that got lots of media coverage. The lawmakers took notice. They knew that there were a lot of votes on those bikes, enough to swing an election.
In my dealings with elected officials, I found most of them very open minded, and many were downright pissed when shown how the DOT and their lackeys in State DOT postiions fabricate, distort, and flat out lie on Helmet statistics. They only know what they are told. If their only input is from DOT types we won't like the result. Hell they even told them most of us WANT Helmet Laws in our State. We showed them that maybe that statement wasn't true.

Our system of government works if you participate and make your voice heard. You know that the special interests get their voices heard, but ours is louder, if they know how we feel and that we vote.
