We have a 2012 cvo ultra and we only have 1400 miles on it and had the bags off at about 1300 miles and we had one come off yesterday. on the cvos u cant by the paint u have to buy the whole saddlebag which is $1400. Im going to check to see if covered under warranty. In my opion this is a
**** pour design for a $37000 bike. this is just another way for harley davidison to get more money out of you.
One of the first mods I did was remove the dzus fasteners and replace with U-Nuts and bolts. Takes maybe a minute longer to remove the bags but have had no issues with them coming loose. Just did a 2800 mile trip with no issues. Cheap peace of mind.
Damn thats a bummer! I have heard of a few horror stories like this. I've contemplated changing my bail situation to bolts, but the bail is very convienient since I take the bags on and off so often. I recently changed out the bails and clips to new ones for added peace of mind. The new ones are definately tighter. They wear if you remove bags offten like I do.
You only need to replace one fastener on each side with a u-nut and bolt for peace of mind. I used the Brukus kit, but you can pick up parts at any hardware store. It takes me about 40 seconds longer to remove each bag, I can handle that.
Ditto on the u nut plates and security allen bolt weather you get the brukus set up of go to your local hardware store.Keeps them from falling off or someone from stealing them.
+1 for Brukus. Good people who make a good product. Yeah it's overpriced but I also put a premium on my time and it's easier ordering their kit vs scrounging around the local hardware store.
Try this. It will fix the issue cheaply and prevent theft as well. Cost; less than $ 10.00
Same set up I'm using with the 5/16" u nuts. Cost was about $8.00 at the local hardware store. The 1" bolts were a little short so I used 1-1/4" allen head bolts for easier attachment. I carry a 1/4"allen wrench with me to remove the allen bolts. Very cheap and easy fix for the peace of mind it provides.
