Default First Post...Question

I have now owned my first HD for 5 months, a used 2006 CVO SE Electa Glide Ultra. What a great bike. My question is a need new tires, but I don't want to take it to HD because they are so much more expensive. Should I be ready with rear brakes incase they are due to be changed when I go to a differnet shop (I assume they wouldn't have the partrs) I have 15000 miles. I know it matters how you ride, but is there an approximate time HD's wear their brakes out? My Yamaha wore the rear brakes out at 8000 miles, and I found out they needed to be changed when I went in for tires.

I would think they would be fine, I know mine lasted a lot longer than that.

Welcome!

15K miles and the tire/wheel is coming off anyway? Yeah....I would think they might be ready for pads but as you stated it depends on how ridden. Pretty easy to inspect yourself and see how much if any of the grooved wear indicator is left.

Wow, what a machine to start on! Congrats! Don't put the crapy Dunlops back on. As stated, check the pads while back there and replace if necessary. Check out the Michelin Commanders.

I love Avons myself, they handle great but you sacrifice some mileage, a lot of people here like the Dunlop E 3's, say they have the grip & last a long time. Yes get some new brake pads so that you have them, if they're not needed yet you'll need them sooner or later, you'll save a lot on labor if you have them put on the same time as your tire change.

15-20k is about all I get out of rear brake pads. Considerably more than that out of fronts. This just shows that in spite of my conscious efforts I brake more with the rear than the fronts. "Your results may vary."
