I took them to the painter today. He sees a LOT of Harley stuff (Combs Custom Cycle). He was really impressed with the bags, the way they were built and the way they looked. I'm pretty pumped!
Hey C-bears,
I have an 09 Road King Classic and am looking for hard bags for it. From what I can tell - looks like you had the same bike and went with the Calvary Hard Bags - did they fit your existing mounting brackets or did you have to buy additional hardware? I know you had them painted to match your bike - I will be doing the same. Are you still happy with the way they turned out? Are the locks quality? Good storage room? Appreciate the feedback.

Everything fit well. I bought HD rubbers for the bottom of the bags where they sit on the bar and I also bought the HD grommets that go in the holes where they hook to the bike. After that they fit just like stock ones.
The bags themselves are better quality than HD stock hard bags. The locks are better also but the chrome job is not quite as good. I ended up saving a few bucks and o love the way they look.
I'm considering these bags, as well. My painter says he should have no problem. I'm going to give it just a bit more thought, though. Not still entirely sure I need hard bags. I like the leather.

Thanks cbears - really appreciate the feedback and quick response. I've also read the longer threat where you've detailed pretty much every question I had. Your bike looks great. Where did you get this chrome rail guard on the back fender? I always loved the 1 seat look but worried about the holes in fender from the stock seat - now I see how you can overcome that.

We just purchased a 2009 Road King Turquoise & Creme and also wanted to get hard bags painted solid turquoise. After seeing your bike, we now know that is what we want to do and really want a retro look as well so we are also going to go with the Calvary bags like you have on your bike. It sounds like you did not have a problem setting them up as detachable, is that correct? Do they set on a lip on the existing bar on the bike? Also, did you go with a tour pak? We want to find a retro looking luggage bag in the back. If you or someone else has suggestions, we would appreciate it.

No problems. Just buy the stock rubbers I don't have a tour pack because I've got an ultra also.
Does anybody know if having Calvary bags on the Road King will prevent you from being able to add the king trunk? Would it cause a issue with trying to open the bags? It looks like they extend up higher than a stock hard bag and we are concerned it may cause a problem.
That looks great. What brand solo seat do you have?
How much should I expect to pay to have the bags painted?
Thanks
The seat is a Mustang, pretty comfortable. I got three bids for the painting ranging from 300 to 600. I went with the 600 because he absolutely guaranteed me the color would match perfectly, which it did.
I have been looking at putting hard bags on a Sportster. I am considering the Corbin Fleetliners (very expensive, but had them on a V-Rod and loved them), Champion Trike's Liberty Bags, the Cavalry bags, as well as some others.
Can anyone tell me if they are bigger or smaller than stock HD dresser bags? All of these companies measure their bags in SOOOOO many different ways...some in cubic inches, some in quarts, some in liters. Even if you ARE comparing two companies that measure using the same method, even THEY could be doing it in a different way!
So plain and simple...I've owned LOTS of Harley dressers and know very well how much of my junk will fit in them...I just would like to know how the Cavalry bags compare to the stock HD dresser bags.
