Default 1996 Ultra rebuild

I am having my 1996 Ultra EVO with 21,000 miles rebuilt. The heads are going to be ported and polished with oversized valves, a new gear driven cam (EV27?) with 10:1 compression pistons. It now has M&M fuel injection but I was thinking about doing away with the FI and going with a S&S carb. l was interested if any one did this conversion and how it worked out and what parts I would need? Thanks for any comments or input.

I would leave it as it is w/FI. An ev27 in an evo isnt considered radical,This grind is very similar to early evo grinds.Head work will wake this motor up if you decide to go that route.

I'll be watching this threa with interest. I have a 95 Ultra (carb'd) that had a reman engine installed by a local HD dealer back in April (about 2k miles ago). I sure hope the new engine will last longer than the previous one did!!! (I'm an easy rider and meticulous about maintenance (all Mobil 1 V Twin / and other Mobil 1 synthetics).

The motor it self runs great but does not pull like I want. I hope with the changes I will get more power.

My 96 Classic is set up very similar. Branch heads, stock pistions, S&S Super E carb, EV-27 cam, roller tappets, push rods, SE coil, Dyna 2000 ignition module, and Kirker slip-ons. It runs very strong for a stock bore motor, has alot of pull above 3000 rpm and can pull the front end up on 1-2 shift. I bought this bike already done from my Dad last year when he bought a 05 Ultra. He had a 94 Classic before this 96 setup the same way except the cam in the 94 was a EV-13. My buddy owns the bike now. That thing is an animal from light to light, lots of stump pulling torque, but it peters out after 85mph.

Both setups get excellent gas mileage if your not hot rodding. My 96 eats up Dads bone stock 05 and uses exactly the same amount of fuel while touring.

What you will like most with that setup is the passing power without down shifting.

Why are you going to 10:1 pistions??
