I went with the Classic. Love the look of the bags, so much so I got the leather Tour Pak. I also like the laced wheels and those big fat whitewalls. Yeah, all of that is a bit more in cleaning maintenance, but I enjoy it.
As for the comments about locking, HD sells a lock kit for the side bags and Tour Pak which can be keyed to match your bike's key. I haven't purchased them yet. There are also third party locks which they claim they can key to the bike's key as well.
As everyone has said, go with what you like best. Same bike, just different style.
Although the classic is a cool looking bike in its own right, I chose the standard. I wanted the option of a hard tourpack to match. I do not like the look of the leather tourpak. Not a fan of whitewalls and the lace wheels. Cruise was an option for the standard- I opted for that and the security package.
As far as I am concerned you can't go wrong with either choice.
I had a classic and my buddy also had a classic. He swapped out his bags for the hard ones and I think his looked better. My leather bags scratched and didn't look that great after a few years, especially after getting caught in the rain a couple of times. He had his bags custom painted which you can't do on leather and the hard bags are better for security purposes since you can lock them. Obviously somebody can brake them as easy as cutting or just opening the leather bags but that is less likely for a quick grab crook. Go with the hard bags and you won't be sorry, JMO.
I went with the RKC because I wanted the retro look and the cruise control (I don't think the RK standard has that feature). I've purchased a set of hard bags now though and am just waiting on the $$$s to have them painted. I'm still glad I went with the RKC though because the color scheme I picked is the bomb!
