I dip a towel in a bucket of hot, soapy water and lay it on the windshield while I wash the rest of the bike. When I am done with the bike, I remove the towel and use the washing mitt to clean the bugs off the windshield. They come right off. Then I blow the whole thing dry with a leaf blower.
does Simple Green glass cleaner remove the wax i apply on the painted surface ? the simple green glass cleaner does great job polishing the chrome and removing bugs and dirt... any idea ? how long does the pledge last on the fairing and painted surfaces?
That's what we do on the road, pull into the hotel get a bucket of HOT water and put a towl in and lay it on the fairing, works like a champ. It's always nice to see her shine again after a great ride.
1. PH neutral bio-degradable truck wash. mix concentrate to suit with water and spray on with a spray bottle, do something else for 10 minutes or more.
You don't have to wait 10 minutes-- you can leave this stuff on for up to 24 hours and the same thing happens (I've tried it)-- it removes the crud and a WHOLE lot cheaper than S100.
2. Rinse off with hose.
3. Dry with a blower.
4. Use Pledge for remaining bug residue w/2 microfiber cloths-- one to wipe over, one to remove the remaining Pledge.
During a Patriot Guard ride last wednesday, parked next to another blue Ultra (older than mine) with lots of chrome and noticed the paint on his tank was spotless and shined like glass. When I looked at my 09's paint on my tank, I could see swirl marks where as he didn't have any. I wish I had asked him how he got it so smooth and scratch free.
All microfiber cloths are not created the same. I noticed the ones I bought from an auto parts chain was leaving scratches in the wax... which lead to swirl marks. Threw them away and went a different route. Wont touch a microfiber cloth again.
