Cool FLHP chrome control conversion

Ok HD's new technology, although very nice, is not working with my old school mentality. I recently purchased an 09 FLHP, I love it! I really want to get rid of the police style switch housings and if it was a pre-97 I wouldn't be asking for help.

However...........ABS, Fly by wire, clutch safety switch?
Then it's radio, cruise, wtf!!!!

Can somebody please tell me if you can get just a 3 switch per side chrome control housing? I also want the clutch bracket and master cylinder set up.

I have read through several posts, but have not found an answer to this question.

While I wait for an answer, I'll be riding my '69

Thanks Guys

I changed out the police switches on my '04 EG police model to the RK's simple (no radio controls) switches. You'll need a wiring diagram and some knowledge of how to remove and install pins in the connectors at the ends of the handlebar harnesses since you'll be removing the siren and pursuit switches.

You will also need to buy the civilian horn/hi-lo switch pair. They're an assembly, so there is no easy way to use what you have now. The cost was about $25 IIRC.

Over the 5+ years I've had my '04 FLHTPI I've done a lot of wirng mods and having the 2004 HD Touring Service Manual and Police Supplement with their wiring diagrams was essential.

Basically, what you're doing is changing the police handlebar wiring to replicate the civilian handlebar wiring of a Road King Standard. When you do, you'll be able to use the civilian chrome switch housings. Since all HD's since '07 now have the clutch interlock switch, you'll be able to use chrome controls for civilian RK's.

There are probably ways to do what you want different from what's described above, but replicating the civilian wiring/parts seems like the easiest way; it has been for me.

So.......

1. I need to find late model 07-10 touring controls with a master cylinder compatible with Brembo/ABS (why the master cylinder from abs to standard is different I dont know, they are both 11/16th fittings)

2. Use 96 up switch housings with only three holes on each side. (pre 07 will have to be drilled for clutch safety switch)(or by pass it)

3. Get a set of pre wired switches for an 07 up, so the connections will be compatible with my existing harness.

Am I on the right track??

Also don't know if the m/c is the same or different on ABS equipped bikes.

3. Get a set of pre wired switches for an 07 up, so the connections will be compatible with my existing harness. You don't need wired switches since all the retained switches (turn signals, run, and start) are the same except for replacing the horn/hi-lo pair. I have no experience buying wired switches to replace the OEM switch harness and connector.

Am I on the right track??
I converted the front brakes on my '04 EG to Brembo calipers, rotors, and master cylinder (and also changed the clutch perch because the levers are different on the '08 and newer Touring models. Had OEM black '09 m/c, m/c cover, clutch perch, and brackets chrome plated at Atlas Plating in Houston for $125.

Good luck with your project.

Well I will see what I can come up with. I am wanting to change out the bars as well and needed extra length on my wires. I figured I could get a wire kit with extended wires and eliminate the wire extensions, they are about the same price.

Well thanks for your help.
