Currently riding a 02 BMW GS Adventure which I traded my an 02 RK for 3 years ago.
I'm considering buying a used Electra Glide but have a couple of questions.
I like my toys and my BM currently powers a Creative MP3 player, a GPS system, 2 hi def driving lamps, , electric heated waistcoat and heated grips without any trouble.
Will the HD electrics be able to cope with that kind of demand? (obviously the heated stuff is only used occasionally, but I do ride all year)
My Dad switched from a Road King to a BMW 1200RT, he likes to do VERY long rides and wanted the "range" of the BMW.
Anyways, He had a bunch of farkles like your's on his King which he transfered to the RT so the answer is yes the HD electrics will handle all your stuff and then some.
FYI: If you are worried about the "total" electrical drain on the Electra Glide, HD offers an upgraded charging system, see below for part number and description:
Part number: 29999-97B
45-Amp Charging System for Electra GlideÂŽ Models
Standard equipment on H-DÂŽ touring-style Police motorcycles, this high-output charging system knows how to work for a living. Add more electronics - including lights - on your Electra GlideÂŽ model without worrying about whether you've got the juice to back it up.
Check the specs of the various model years you are looking at. The later model Harley touring bikes have a beefed up charging system, but I don't remember what years they upgraded.
the se ultra for example comes with heated seat and heated grips, full stereo with cd and mp3 playable cd xm and gps. also has a hungru set of passing lamps and lots of stuff can be added. i have quite a load myself and am stock charging system.
I have pluged a 75 watt inverter into my lighter scoket and ran my printer the volt meter stayed right at 14 ,Yep I lke my toys I use a air pump to blow my air matters. All that can happen is blow a lighter flues nothing happened.
