I just installed one of these on my '00 EGC tonight. I'm waiting on my J&M 7.25" set to be in tomorrow so I've been playing with it on the stock speakers. I have played it hard in my garage for the last hour and it's just warm to the touch. I also used speaker level inputs rather than an RCA converter. I used adhesive Velcro to hold it to the deck and I'm going to back that up with a large zip tie. Install was very easy. I ran both hot and ground to the battery. I ran them both under the tank toward the neck and right into the fairing, pretty straight forward. We will see how it lasts but so far I like it!
I have it as well. I am using ELF 6.5" coax speakers with it. I have the gain up all the way ( the speakers are 90w RMS each- they can handle it), high pass on & freq around 90-100. I had the RCA coverter box lying around, so I used it. Great amp. I used it on the road this past Saturday, when I got home I took the fairing off to add more gain & I felt it, it was warm, but no warmer than the HK HU normally is.
I have been running the elf for 8-9 months without any problems. I log around 1800-2000 miles per month and the amp seems to be holding up. I installed the 7.25" last month and they work well with the amp.
I see the price of this amp just went up $50.00 bucks on Ebay. They were at $150.00 + $5.00 for shipping and now they are at $200 including shipping.
I don't know if I should just pull the trigger on the new J&M or get the Elf.
As for pricing, I spoke to Elf last week and was quoted $150 and directed to a retail outlet near Atlanta who sells it for $199, but would honor the $150: Joker's Audio is the retail outlet. Don't know if the price is still good.
Be Forewarned this is a rant.
I was told by a certain person (seller) on this forum "the new J&M 7.25"
speakers will BLOW away ANYTHING Hogtunes has. Trust me, I
have tested every speaker out on the market in my Street Glide and
nothing comes close to the J&Ms and we can save you some
money, that the J&M 7.25 out performed the Hogtunes with an amp" and was completely mislead, the 7.25 are only a few DB louder then the stock without an amp. I needed louder (due to aftermarket pipes) and was completely disappointed. i think it was a marketing ploy, if you buy hogtunes with amp price is $400 delivered, J&M 7.25 was $220 now add J&M amp $349.95 because its not loud enough totals out to be $570, should have done the math first. I too am looking at the ELF amplifier to get where i want to be for sound.
I got my install completed last night. The 7.25" speakers sound good and I've enjoyed them so far. The amp is a very tight fit inside the fairing though...
I agree the Elf E2125X is a great mini amp. I am running this amp with the J&M 7.25's in my 05' RG. Sounds great with all music types. I would never spend $350.00 - $500.00 for a amp. I paid $200.00 for the elf and it has performed very well.. It seems to have all the same specs as the ARC and now the new J&M??
I just installed J&M 7.25" speakers into my '10 SG (with stock exhaust). The volume is a little louder than stock and they can handle full volume. They sound really good and I can hear all the different instruments without distortion. I primarily listen to old rock and roll. The only problem is they seem to lose a lot of bass. I'm looking at the Elf 212SX. Will this bring back the base? Yes I adjusted the bass controls on the HK radio. Also planning on adding a better muffler like a Nightstick.
