Seems like everytime he takes the street glide to his dealer (syracuse ny), they take him to the cleaners !!! He's had other problems as well. The bike seems to be using oil. We notice one side of the pipes with black film on it. Looks like oil to me but dealer says the amount of oil it's using is within harley specs, whatever that means? Now this problem with the drive belt on a bike that has been well cared for with only 6000 miles on it . I told him to call Harley customer service, but I've heard that they are about as handy as a fart in the wind .

WELL HERE IT IS .... He called Harley Customer Service and spoke to a lady who said ,"no question about it, that should be covered." He also spoke to an Engineer at Harley who said that the dealer knows full well that belt problems are covered while under warranty. After customer service made a phone call to the dealer, the dealer then called my buddy and said that he didn' know how they could've overlooked this being a warranty issue. Total bill was $657.00. But, after Harley spoke to the dealer the total bill was reduced to $6.00. THat's right 6 BUCKS !!! He had to pay to get the bike inspected. THAT'S IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it was adjusted too tight to begin with (probably by the dealer) and after sitting in the cold winter and perhaps if it was cold the day you sat on it, the belt was contracted even tighter due to the cold and snap.

Well the funny thing is the Engineer that my buddy talked to on the phone asked if the rear tire was ever changed. Yes it was !!! He had a screw in the tire and the dealer replaced the tire in the summer of '09. The Engineer from Harley said that they probably had the belt too tight or possibly had the wheel not quite straight. Makes you wonder how many people this dealer has ripped off with people being charged for warranty work performed. I guess they gotta pay for that new building somehow !!!

The dealer said there was debris that caused the belt to break, but when asked what the debris was, the dealer couldn't remember exactly what the mechanics found. Performance Harley , Syracuse NY.......Thumbs Down !!!
Performance has a well-deserved rep for being the worst when it comes to customer service. A buddy of mine bought his bike 2.5 hours away and takes it to a dealer a hour a away just to avoid them.
