'08 Street Glide Drive Belt problem
Got a buddy from work who went to get his Street Glide out for the first time this year. When he tried to put it in gear, nothing happened . Got off the bike and noticed the Drive Belt lying on the floor. Somehow the belt had broken. The bike is still under warranty so he had the dealer come and pick it up. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else ? He's afraid the dealer is going to say a mouse chewed the belt in half and not going to honor the warranty. What do you think ???
Dosen't matter what happened to the belt, they will replace it for free if still under warranty. I am curious what happened to it, those belts are tough. Maybe dry rotten IDK, i would almost hope it was a mouse.
Does he have a "worked engine", does he do donuts? Seems odd that that you couldnt comment on the type of break the belt had to be laying on the floor..
Obviously he drove the bike in the gararge with no problem to put it away so we have to assume the belt was broken and about to split at that time...
Really curious of how he made out and what the dealer said about it.....
Fill us in......
Unless the motorcycle warranty world is that much different then automotive, but I wouldn't warranty any thing resembling rodent damage. Multiple times a warranted vehicle became customer pay once rodent damage was determined.
Note to all,
If you have a pet, and keep it's food in the garage...keep it in a sealed container. Otherwise it draws in the pests and they set up shop.
I think it would take a bionic rodent to chew through that belt, there awful tough. Seems funny that it made it in last fall & just fell off this spring, I'd like to see a picture of it.
I have heard that around Area 31 there are mice with razor sharp teath and an appetite for rubber. Not sure if they are alien or what. Just saying, be careful!
I'd suspect a little mischief behind this one if it's a smooth cut.......
If it's a ragged tear.....a rock could have gotten in there to start the damage along with some "power riding" could finnish the job when he tried to pull away for the first time in the new season...

Ran fine when put up for winter storage. Started it to drive it for the first time this year and the belt was off. Not sure if it was broke in half or just fell off. The dealer said it would not be covered if a rock was the reason the belt came off. Definately not from abuse, cause this guy is **** about the way he takes care of his bike !!! Find out for sure, tomorrow or monday (3/27-3/28)
