I have a SE Stage 1, with a custom plate cover.. so I can hear a rapid "tick", I think of it as the bike breathing deep when I kick the throttle in high gear.
It sounds like normal engine noise to me. As for the tick yes it has a tich and its attached to my wallet sucking it dry of every spare dollar I can come up with.
Go open the hood of your car or truck, the next part may be hard for some of you bigger guys, climb inside the engine bay and sit on the motor like you would your bike. I guarantee you will hear similar ticking, rattling, clicking or however you want to describe the noises coming from the motor. Its normal just ride the thing, you will know when you have a problem it will come in the form of a loud "Tap", knock, smoke, or even worse EEEErrrrrrrrrrrrr Bbbbbbaaaammmm ting ting ting, ouch thats what i call a crash indicator noise, lets hope that neeeevvver happens.

Reason: guarantee not garuantee
The noise you are hearing is either from the valve train or the fuel injectors. Also, bikes with wind shields or fairings will hear the noise more than bikes without.
I think it's normal. Air-cooled bikes don't have water jackets to muffle engine noise, so you hear more internal sounds. Changing oil brands & viscosities will usually alter what you hear. My bike was a tick-monster with M1 15W-50, Redline, and Amsoil, but much quieter with HD dino & Syn3. Go figger. Have some M1 V-Twin going in this weekend- it'll be interesting to see what she sounds like with that...
If you think a Harley makes a lot of ticking noises, hop on a BMW Boxer. They sound like a Harley with NO oil... lol
