Default Temporary mounting a tour pack

Going to mount a chopped tour pack on a solo rack. I'm struggling with the optimum position to use the tour pack pad for my backrest. Would like to dial it in before a start drilling holes. Any ideas to temporarily mount it to try it out so I can get it right the first time? Any rough starting point to use?
This is on a 09 streetglide with C&C Solo seat. Thanks

I'd prolly mont the TP to a plate with dove tailed edges, then mount a female dove tailed plate on the solo rack, mounted in the normal position, that way you can slide the TP forward or backward to suit you, crank down a couple countersunk screws to lock in place on the dove tail. make the dovetail assy, about 14" square and you should be able to slide it quite some distance forward or back and still be very rigid.

Sounds like a two person job. Install the solo rack on the bike and put the tour pak on the rack with someone holding it. You sit on the seat and get the tour pak where you want it, get off the bike and use the holes in the rack to mark the bottom of the tour pak for drilling.

Sounds like you're using a pre-'09 or aftermarket chopped tour pak 'cause an '09 would come pre-drilled with holes matching the holes in the rack.

Good luck with your project.

Thats great to know that the new ones have the holes predrilled now, since I just ordered one, I was wondering about the drilling part

Yes I am using a pre 09 pack and the holes don't line up which means I have to drill new holes. I thought that at least it was a two person job to start with. I was hoping to get it set basicly where I wanted it then try to temporarily secure it and do a test ride before drilling the new holes. Don't want the bottom of the pack to look like swiss cheese.

Thanks for your help

You might consider drilling the holes as slots; drill two holes next to each other on a front to back axis, or a single hole and elongate the hole fore and/or aft to provide some adjustability. I use washers with the bolts to spread the load and the washers would cover the slots in the base of the tour pak, and the elongated holes would be covered by the base of the tour pak.

Good luck with your project.

Great idea. I have some 3/8" by 2" alum. strap that I can cut slotes in. Mount the strap solid to the solo rack then mount the pack to the strap with the slots. That should give me some fore and aft movement and still only have round holes in the pack. I think I can make that work.
