The fatcat was installed tonight. These are words that I never thought that I would be typing...hahaha! The install went "ok". I lost one of the nuts that mount the exhaust to the head. I heard it "tink" and then I never saw it again. Thankfully my buddy keeps his bike in the same storage building, so I took one off of his....LOL...what are friends for huh? I believe everything tightened up ok. It seemed the bolts that mount to the head were a little tough to get tightened. It seems like they could be tightened more, but when I fired it up I didn't hear any leakage.
Well I got everything together and tightened up. I fired it up and HOLY SH*T. This thing is loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It sounds like a freaking big block. It turns out that my old headpipes had the catalyst in them. I didn't get a chance to ride it yet, but hopefully I will tomorrow. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.
I think you might want to torque those nuts to same and proper torque and then retorque them in 200 miles or so....
Couple reasons:
1) You don't want to crush the crap out of the exhaust gaskets
2) You don't want those nuts working there way off at a bad time
Since you have to take the time to take off and install the heat shields which I find to be a minor pain in the ***...you want to be worry free regarding the nuts cause they do, can and will fall off if not torqued correctly.
I have the standard baffle in them. I'll probably torque those bolts down again in a few hundred miles. It seems to me that the D&D have their flanges mounted a little further out than other pipes that I've seen. I'll try to take a picture to show you what I'm talking about.
I did make one other mistake...haha. I'm no mechanic by any means. I did get a LITTLE anti seize compound on the O2 sensor. I attached a photo showing where I got it on the sensor at. I got as much of it off as I could. It got on the side of the sensor a little. Think it'll mess anything up?
D&D states you need the concentric only for stock motor......no upgrades......any upgrades cams or such change to big bore quiet or loud or bourzila
That may be what D&D states, but it isn't the way it is. I'm making 116/116 out of the 103 in my Night Train with a quiet baffle. It may be hurting the top end a bit, but not by much.
