Default First time in the air

Got a J&S lift for christmas. Going to try it out today and wondering if anyone else was nervous putting their bike in the air for the first time?

Only on bumpy roads But, I certainly wouldn't let that ******* sit on my fender and possibly damage it either!

LOL.... I think the guy on the fender is Steve... The "S" from J&S lift. I borrowed that pic from their website.

In all seriousness, the only time I ever got nervous putting my bike in the air on a floor jack was when it was being let down. I always check and double check my jiffy stand. When it comes down and goes on the jiffy stand it just seems like an awfully far over lean like it's going to fall over. Funny that it never bothered me when getting off the bike and leaning it over, it's just the subconscious deal of it falling off the lift.

Agreed, this is the freaky part for me too. I'm usually on one knee letting my bike down and when it starts to lean over on the stand, I still reach up and grab the handlebars. No way in hell would that stop it from falling over, just a subconscious thing I guess.

Ha! Same here! I lowered mine down VERY slowly so I could go around to the other side and "monitor" it going onto the jiffy stand! The J&S does perform as advertised though! No tie-downs needed ... ever! Great jack!

OK thanks. I just have this image of lowering my Ultra Classic only to watch it fall over. Now if I just remember to always have the Jiffy Stand lowered I'll do fine. I'll put it up in the air today but don't think I'm going to sit on it and spin it around like they do. I was lucky enough to meet them at the Tomahawk, WI rally last fall and was sold after watching the demonstration. Super nice guys... lifetime warranty. Also, I only live 45 mins away and was told to "stop in anytime".

That's why I went with a lift table - just never could get comfortable with the stands. Besides - I'm forgetful, an' would likely remember the jiffy stand about the time she laid over.....

One word for the wise, "Checklist." Being a pilot, we live by a checklist (preflight, taxi, before takeoff, etc.) and would offer the advise to this situation too. Always verify that your scooter is ready to be let down and that the stand is extended before pumping the J&S jack up, removing the safety catches then letting it down; (being obsessive compulsive I always check at least 3x.)
I had the same concerns when I first got my J&S but always remember to not be in a hurry; it's not worth it.
P.S. I always use the checklist rule before any trip to verify lights working, brake lights working, inspect for leaks, tire pressure, etc..
Better to find a problem before starting out than stuck on the side of a road somewhere.

Ride Safe !!

Thanks for all the advice. I tested the lift out with my Dyna. There is definately a learning curve to getting the bike on and off. It took about 4 times to put it on before I found the "sweet spot". My son and his girlfriend thought it was fun to sit on the Dyna up in the air.....
