i just bought my first harley which is an 03 ultra classic with a stage 2 big bore kit i got it from a friend that got it from a sale it had been wrecked but its all cosmetic and in the process of replacing parts and getting ready for paint
with that said i know nothing about a harley the bike has 13k on it and be fore i bought it the running works were went over by harley and and everything was ok then i took it to another local shop that works on harley and he said all was ok
so now i am looking for advice on maintenance for it whens next oil change every 8k? how often plugs change read something about cam tensioners? at 20k the dealership wants 800+ to the suggested 20k service i aint paying them that ill grease my own cables and tighten my own bolts but would like to know what the important stuff to service and when its due to keep my motor running strong
You need to get a service manual and it will explain all of this. The manual on my '06 calls for changing the plugs every 10k miles. I run Redline oil and change it every 5k miles. I also run Redline in the tranny and primary and change those once a year in the spring, usually around 10-12k miles.
