Default How Do I do it

OK........the whole thing started a few months ago.

I told the wife I wanted a bike. She said she didnt like em, but if I wanted one to try and find a good deal.

I looked at all the rice burners.........took her with me. She had no idea what she was looking at and said so. "I dont know baby, I cant tell you which one to get".

So.......we meander over to the HD shop. ( The plan unfolds)
Arent these nice?
Yeah - how much do they cost?
Oh - Hi, how much is this SUper?

Blah Blah Blah BLah.........

(off to the side away from the nice saleman)
Thats a lot of money. The other one was half that much.
Yeah baby, but it aint a Hog.
What is this Hog thing?
You wouldnt understand.
I guess not.
It's your money, you worked for it.

A day later, we went and got my SUper.
I love my super. Its a Harley. It is all tricked out now.

But I want a RK.

The dealer will treat me right on trade and new price. The deal has been struck over the phone allready. It will be about 7000 difference.

Now........how do I make her come over to my side?

HELP!!!!

It's all about the comfort thing. My shoe-in was an XL1200C. I had her climb on behind me to compare after 1500+ miles on the sporty during the laughlin river run. My RKC will be here this afternoon. Does she ride with you? Don't get me wrong, I was very excited when I bought the sporty, but I really wanted a BT.

Due to time constraints in getting ready for a mission trip at the end of this month, she has only ridden once with me.

She complained only about her butt vibrating. Perhaps the larger seating area and more metal supporting her and the air ride on the rear will help.

She will ride with me, even though she is "scared" of "those things".

I mostly ride mine to work and back.

But I'm a big fellow. I need a RK.

Bigger = Safer? It might work. Tell her that while you love your glide that it would bring you 2 closer to be able to go away for a weekend in comfort that the RK will provide. With the bags you guys can stop and pickup those souvenir knick knacks she loves so much and have a place to carry them. Picnics at the beach or lake are easier when you have a place to store the goodies. I don't know dude. Just get that RK. I got mine and love it. Tell her also that like getting a Posrche or whatever, that by getting the RK you can't go much higher up the HD food chain and that you will finally be satisfied for years to come. And they lived happily ever after, Mikey, the Mrs and their beauthiful RK. The End.

Darn........that was just plain sweet.
I think the idea about not being able to go much higher on the food chain may get her. SHe is always first and foremost a very frugal lady. If I tell her that this is it and I will be happy, then maybe after sitting on the bigger bike, she will go for it.

I'm gonna try and do it next week.

Now I just gotta get my youngest daughter married off so it will be Me, the Hippiechick, and the RK.

That means I got to find her a guy. ANyone need a high maintenance girlfriend?

Ask Mac. I think he is the resident expert for advise on how to talk the wife into a different bike. It worked for Rgerber anyway.

Do Like I do....strike the deal with the dealer, take the new ride home and say "Honey, Sign Here...." That always works for me because it's already there......

Good Luck.

Mike,

Some good ideas have already been posted, but I would like to offer an additional route to add to your presentation - SAFETY!

Explain to her that the fatter front tire will add additional stability to your ride as well as the RKs have duel front brakes - where 70% of motorcycle's stopping power comes from. Also if your Super doesn't have a windshield, the windshield on the RK will provide protection from the elements, bugs and road objects.

All of this is true - I hope it helps.

Mike, It might sound crazy, but from what I read between the lines re: your Lady, I would try absolute, total, 100% honesty.
"Honey, you know how much I wanted a bike and how much I specifically wanted it to be a Harley. Well. I made a mistake. I was too concerned about price and didn't get the one I really wanted. I reaalize now that I won't really be happy/contented until I have the larger touring bike. I could tell you that it will be much more comfortable for you and that it is safer. Both of those things are true. But, the real reason, the primary reason is that the Road King is the bike of my dreams and I really want it." I spoke with the dealer and he'll buy back my bike for $1295 less than we paid for it. Do you realize how good a deal that is compared to trying to trade back a car?"
She replies, Well what about the other fees we paid and how do I know that you won't change your mind again? Is this Road Whatever the biggest bike Harley makes? Will you be wanting to change again in another 6 months?
You..."Honey, of all the mistakes I've made in my life, the one thing I did right was marrying you. Yes, Harley makes larger touring bikes. Maybe 10 years from now, I may want one of those. As for now, I feel within my heart that this Road King is the bike that was made for me and for us. Let's go take a look at it and you can see the actual figures. After all that really matters is the amount of the monthly payment and we can make that easily enough. (perhaps offer to give up something to save money. Carry your lunch in those saddlebags.)
She...Well, what will people (or so and so) say. We'll look foolish.
You,,,"No. I may look foolish to some, but I'm following my heart. Our dreams and our goals for each other and our family have always been the most important thing in our xx amount of years of marriage. This is my personal dream. I made a mistake, but I really don't want this part of my life to come down to the fact that because of trying to save a few thousand dollars, I compromised one of my lifelong dreams. Besides, we won't have to pay near as much in sales tax, because we have a $14,000 (or whatever) trade-in." I know that it may seem childish to you and you are concerned about what other people would say, but your opinion is the only one that matters to me. What do you say...or would you like some time to think about it? I'll still love you and always will, no matter what, but I wanted to try to explain to you how important this to me, instead of just going and doing it."

I once wanted to take a car back after 2 days knowing that it was the wrong car, but my ex-wife was too concerned about what people would say. In two years, we took a total bath on it and had nothing but trouble. She even admitted several times, I wish I would have let you take this back when you wanted to.

If I'm correct in my assessment of you two...every word above is true and I can see the RK in your avator next week. Just my $.02 Art
