Was riding along, enjoying the day when I felt something hit my left toe. It was my shifter peg. The pinch bolt that holds the shifter shaft tight had gone bye bye at some point and the linkage had separated from the shifter. I pushed it back together and made it to the dealer, I was only about 3 miles away. Something new to keep an eye on in the future!
I can relate.. riding yesterday and my lower switch housing bolt went bye bye and the top had worked it's way very loose and clutch no workie so well lol. Made it to the 7-11 and pulled out the tool kit and tightened up the top and made it home. Went to the stealer today and spent a whole .59 and OTD.. least I've EVER spent lol. Gotta make sure to put more loctite on the bitch this go round.
That happened to my buddy when we went to Arizona bike week running down the freeway he was in front of me seen this shiney chrome thing bounce off of the highway took a catapulting bounce flew over me and the wife luckily it was his dang heel shifter. That would have been real bad. Man I use locktite on everything but not everyone does! Made me have a new respect for the fit hitting tha shan!!!
Had a friend lose his shifter peg on a ride last week. Damn thing almost caught me in the head. Luckily another buddy happened to have an extra in his saddlebag.
Had a friend lose his Thunderheader exhaust bracket where it bolts to the frame on his Sturgis. That's about a pound of steel sailing towards your head. Lucky nobody got tapped by it.
if you loose the peg itself, i think it's a 5/16 or 3/8 fine thread. if a dealership isn't close or they're closed, you can get a 2" bolt and a nut to lock it with. it worked for me one weekend when the shifter peg on one of my older harleys fell off on a sunday out of town.
