How could I mess this up? I've done it several times, use the manual, forum printout and fix my hog. Loosened the cable adjuster, clutch adjuster lock nut, turned adjuster in, backed it out and tightened lock nut.
Now I can't seem to "shorten" the cable enough. The lever starts to go to normal position but before it does I run out of adjustment. What the heck did I do wrong?
You may have messed up the ball and ramp assembly. After adjusting the basket, I usually work the lever 2-3 times to seat the ball and ramp assembly prior to adjusting the cable.
you may have backed the primary adjustment at the clutch pack too much. Loosen cable adjustment. Make sure clutch is cold, loosen 11/16" locknut, back screw out, turn screw back in until you feel slight resistance, back out scew 1/2 to 3/4 of turn and cinch down and tighten 11/16" locknut, then adjust clutch cable.
