Default Clutch adjustment issues - new clutch cable

I have read thru all of the threads on the forum and I can't seem to find my answer and I'm getting very frustrated.

I changed the bars on my 2006 SG and I had to go with a +4 clutch cable. I am trying to adjust the clutch as per the manual. When I loosen the locknut and screw in the adjuster screw, do i screw it in all the way and then back it out? do I screw it in until I see the clutch plates move inside the primary? It says lightly seated, is that when you feel resistance?

When I try to put the bike into first gear it grinds. I have my cable adjuster so there are no threads showing.

What am I doing wrong?

Unlock the nut then screw in the adjuster screw until it bottoms out (you feel resistance). Do this about three times to get the feel of it. When you are comfortable with the feel of where it bottoms out, back it off 1/2 turn and lock down the nut. Then work the lever about three times back and forth to seat the ball and ramp assembly. Then tighten the adjuster on the cable to where you can pull the cable out of the perch leaving between 1/16-1/8" or a nickel's width that most of us use.
