Default fairing power for amp

I just purchased an Elf 2125X amp.. Is there a spot under the Road Glide fairing with clean ignition switched power to connect the amp to. I don't want to remove the tank to run wires to the accessory plug. John
As an added complication I also need to power a set of Heat Demon grip warmers. I'm not asking too much am I?

Hi,

You need at least 8 gauge wire for the power for your amp and their is nothing that big inside of the fairing.

I just completed the install of my Arc Amp and I ran the power back to the battery. I didn't remove the tank I just removed the three bolts holding the tank on and lifted the tank up and pushed the wires in (piece of cake). Get a couple of buddies (or children) to lift it up as you push the wires in.

Good luck!

I have the ARC mini in mine. I did run a line under the tank, even stuffed it in the wiring basket that is under there. I have seen a couple of threads where the poster only unbolted the seat end of the tank and lifted it up enough to slide the wire under, seemed to work for a lot of people. For switching power, I connected to the lighter lead and when I ran the power from the battery, I put a power block under the fairing so I have more connection spots if I need them.

A power block wired using 8+ gauge wire under the fairing is a great idea. Thanks. I'll get off my lazy butt and wire it properly. Did you attach it directly to the battery or ignition switched wires? If so, which ones? How many amp fuse?

I connected mine directly to the battery with a 25 Amp fuse (important). I connected my ground to the frame under the fairing.

For the switched power, the wire for the cigarette lighter will work.

Cigarette lighter power to relay to Powerlet 4 fused power block under fairing using power directly from battery 8+ wire.. Got it. No sarcasm, just logical simplicity. Power with safety. John

Another option to more wire under the tank.I made a wiring harness in vinyl wire loom which powers my amp off the batt.,a power point on the fairing,Zummo 550,power supply for Sirius radio, off the aux/acc plug under the seat.ran the wire loom down the frame along the brake line, clutch cable into the fairing.I made a little waterproof fuse box out of a 4x2x1" black plastic project box from Radio Shack(mounted 3 blade type fuse links in the box with dielectric from a cable splicing kit, could have used RTV silicone. The fuse box is mounted w/velcro up under the left side of the fairing inconspicuous easy to get to no need to remove seat or fairing to replace a fuse.Got about $15.00 invested

Pulling the tank and dropping into the wiring cradle is no big deal. Wire the hot to the battery and the ground to the frame. Make sure you clean the paint off to get a good connection to the ground. Lots of people ground to the battery as well but some talk about noise with that setup. There is an extra switched power coming off the headlight plug.
