Help! Fairing / clutch cable .....
So I'm in the process of removing my fairing from my Ultra so I can paint the inner fairing. I have a manual and I'm going step by step on the dis-assembly. To remove the clutch cable, it's asking me to disconnect it from the transmission which then asks me to remove the exhaust system. Holy crap, do I have to remove the rear tire too to get to the headlight?
So can you tell me if there is a trick to get the clutch cable out of the lever without going through complete bike dis-assembly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Collapse the adjustment, remove small snap ring on the pin under the lever housing, pull the pin, feed the cable thru the slot in the perch, the rest should be self explanitory. The manual is telling you how to replace the cable which you are not doing

I don't know how to collapse the adjustment. The cable goes into the tranny. and I imagine the adjustment is in there. I used an old dirt bike trick and pulled the lever and then pulled on the cable as I released the lever to pull the cable sleeve out of the perch. It works but I would rather know how to collapse the adjustment instead. Thanks

The clutch adjuster should be just behind the front fender inside a rubber boot.
Slide off the boot. Hold the cable adjuster (longish looking nut) with a 1/2" wrench and loosen the jam nut (normal sized nut) with a 9/16" wrench........back the jam nut all the out then back out the adjuster nut.
Your clutch lever should collapse.......

Zogman to collaspe the cable you have to back the adjuster off. It is in the rubber boot between the tubues in front of the engine. Back off the adjuster then squeeze the clutch lever in to release everything and then you can remove the cable.
If you are going to do work on your bike you might think of getting a HD service manual too.
