Can someone please tell me how to remove slip on mufflers in my 09 Street glide without damaging the head pipe?
I added Bub 7 slip on a few months ago. Went to slip them off today after removing both bolts and muffler bracket. Cannot budge the muffler off the head pipe!!
Already tried to twist them off with a rubber strap..
Remove the clamps on the muffler and where it connects to the headpipe, spray it liberally around the joint with some WD-40 or something. Let it sit for a bit then go back and try twisting it side to side while pulling to the rear.
Are you wanting to salvage the slip-ons? If not, a block of wood against the muffler body and a dead blow hammer is what I used on my factory slip-ons. I use copper high temp silicone when installing new mufflers and they have always came off relatively easy. Not effortlessly, but much easier than heat welded rusted metal to get loose.
