I'm sure you are going to get plenty of opinions on this but I think it's worth it. There are some decent print and online resources available to you and the roadside assistance is nice. I've also used their Travel program where they handle travel and HD rentals for you.
Ill be honest, I'm not an ACTIVE HOG member but I keep the membership just for the roadside assistance. It covers up to 2 bikes for $45 a year. Can't beat it.
I joined it in its first year and became a life member after a couple of years. I don't actually make much use of it and don't belong to a dealer chapter, but enjoy the regular magazines etc. There are services like bike hire worth using, if only occasionally. If you are lucky your local dealer's chapter may run events you like and want to take part in, even help run.
I believe it has a lot to do with the chapter in your area and the dealer.
My HOG chapter provides tons of organized activites that promote rides and making friends with like minded individuals. They also take on a lot of good charity work. I have not been to any national HOG events so dont know much about that but I really like our chapter and the fact that they are organized and provide more events and opportunities than I have time for. Our dealer is wonderful in his support and provides discounts and fully supports the chapter.
Cheap insurance for the once a year come and get me if I break down also.
i've belonged for 16 years, never joined a chapter as I have no need for organized rides or friends to ride with as I've grown up on bikes and all my friends ride, with that being said there are plenty of benefits to belonging even if you never become a chapter member
I'm a HOG member. Road side assisstance, magazines and a pin. Joined our local chapter. Went on a few rides, went to a couple meetings and met lots of nice people. Worth the few $'s .
