this is a very useful thread. i've been so frustrated while fueling at times where i'm just ready to weld in a fuel spout on the right side of the tank where it should have been so i can actually put fuel in without it splashing all over the tank, like when i'm trying to fit 6.5 gallons in a 6 gallon tank, ya know? it sux when you've got her all sharped up, waxed etc, and get a spillover. part of the problem for me is that i've not figured out how to get my hole saw to cut out the bottom flat of the plastic filler spout so the tank can vent properly while fueling. i swear if i ever paint my bike, me and my heliarc machine are gonna be busy welding on a repositioned neck. there, now that i've vented my frustrations i feel much better. thanks for the opportunity to do so.
Man I thought I was the only one. My 06 StreetGlide was a piece of cake to fill up. My 2010 FLHTK is a Pain in the ars. Seems like its empty and the gauge is down but the light didn't come on, so I stop and put 3 gallons in it. WTF the needle shouldn't show 1/8 of a tank if its half full. And when I fill it it shuts off every 2 seconds. I never have overfilled it. Did they change something?
Just wait until you get a pump where the automatic shutoff has quit working. My buddy Buz was talking to me when I noticed gas going everywhere on his scoot. We took it up with the manager and he said it was your responsibility to stay attended with the gas nozzle. He even mentioned the sign that said, " do not leave gas hose unattended". It was all I could do to keep Buz from choking this guy. We still want revenge on this station but it is about 900 mi away, so what's the use.
Well it's compounded here in Missouri. There are spring loaded "Accordion" style vapor recovery wraps around each nozzle. (Not Diesel) and it HAS to be depressed like 1-1.5" BEFORE the danged thing will dispense fuel. SO sometimes your only option is to hold that with one hand and lift it so you can watch the fuel going in. They also have notices all over saying DO NOT TOP OFF.... yea right, who the hell listens to that? So not only are they a pain in the *** to use for bikes, they are not doing one bit of good for air pollution I doubt.
I really think the Governors Brother in Law designed these things and said "Hey, I've got an idea that'll make us rich! Just sign a law that makes all the METRO areas Gas Stations in Missouri HAVE to install these! We'll charge 1,000.00 a handle and get rich!"

Same here, but I've tried staying seated on the scoot while filling holding her up level as i pump works better put not perfect.
Kind of like H-D's consideration when they designed the tour-pak lid to open to the side, I thought the chrome fuel lid should have opened to the right side instead of to the front or rear.
